Abstract
The project proposes the research and development of a hygrothermal building envelope in accordance with the new Chilean thermal regulations described in DS No. 15, 28/11/2025, for two-storey residential buildings, with a frame structure and heavy timber framing. The technical problem in the project addressed is the surface and interstitial condensation that frequently occurs in the lightweight timber frame construction system implicitly referred in the Chilean regulations, which generally place the insulating material along its structural axis. Unlike panel and lightweight frame structures, where a wide variety of hygrothermal solutions exist, the heavy timber frame system lacks validated options under the standard, hindering the development and implementation of this type of structure in the south of the country. The objective is to develop a hygrothermal envelope composed of self-supporting modular panels for roofing, perimeter walls, opaque doors, and windows that meet the requirements for thermal macrozone H-I. The methodology that would be used establishes three phases: a first phase of documentary review of the state of the art, addressing invention patents, scientific literature on the framed system, and Chilean hygrothermal regulations; a second phase of design and development of the modular construction envelope of self-supporting panels, establishing the link between the structure and its envelope along with its respective stratigraphic definition; and finally, a third phase of regulatory and hygrothermal validation through calculation reports based on spreadsheets developed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for the complexes required in thermal macrozone H-I. The development of this degree project seeks (...).
