Abstract
Value-at-Risk has become a standard measure used in the financial Industry. However, VaR has received a large number of critics from the academic world; Conditional Value-at-Risk has been proposed. CVaR is the weighted average of losses exceeding VaR. This new risk measure has many advantages from the conceptual and mathematical point of view. Using this new risk measure, a portfolio optimization of a major Insurance Company will be conducted. It will be shown that this new technique, combined with proper scenario-based methods, a linear optimization can be implemented. Finally, a Backtesting of the model will show that the implementation would have been superior to a Benchmark establish by the company, achieving a larger profit during the study periods.
