Abstract

The “Garden City” is characterized by its unique and emblematic cultural life. Spaces such as municipal theaters and palaces that safeguard the city’s heritage are valued by both local and non-local residents as cultural icons within the city, offering diverse spaces that do justice to the fine arts and provide a cultural contribution. However, we must not turn a deaf ear to what is happening around the Garden City. In the hills, residents gather for community cultural, recreational, and artistic activities. However, the lack of spaces available for these activities, especially in areas isolated from the city center, makes it difficult to carry out activities in these places. This reality is reflected in citizen participation and in how residents who live away from the central area of Viña del Mar comment that “we need cultural spaces and activities that come closer to the hills.
