Abstract
The present work is a detailed investigation regarding non-conventional renewable energy technologies that have the potential to be applied in small mining operations in Chile. This study evaluates the various technologies available for this sector, which is still delayed in integrating clean energy sources into its extractive and mineral processing activities. Currently, small-scale mining operations largely depend on conventional energy sources, which have an environmental impact and imply higher operating costs and lower energy efficiency. Given this situation, the National Mining Society is interested in collecting and updating information on the opportunities for incorporating alternative energies. Its goal is to act as a bridge between technological advances and the needs faced by small-scale mining, promoting and guiding the adoption of clean energies in search of a transition towards more sustainable practices. Implementing non-conventional renewable energies in small-scale mining requires a comprehensive approach based mainly on collecting data from various sector producers and analyzing current energy consumption in the extraction process. This research aims to identify any type of non-conventional renewable energy capable of efficiently satisfying the energy requirements of small-scale mining. It is about finding solutions that are not only sustainable from an environmental perspective but also profitable from an economic point of view to ensure their long-term viability.
