Abstract
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the strategic and financial feasibility of implementing automation processes in a microenterprise specializing in screen printing and garment manufacturing in Santiago. The study begins with a common assessment of the sector: the national textile industry operates in a highly competitive environment, influenced by the presence of Asian imports, and also exhibits a low level of technological development, which results in a high dependence on labor. In this context, the research proposes automation as a necessary means to increase productivity and improve quality, while taking into account the financial and cultural barriers that hinder its adoption in smaller companies. The subject of this study is a family-owned workshop with more than a decade of experience in the promotional products and corporate apparel market. Although the company has adequate pre- and post-printing infrastructure, as well as industrial garment manufacturing machinery, the printing stage is carried out using predominantly manual processes. This means that production speed is limited by the operator’s physical capacity, leading to inconsistencies and difficulties in fulfilling large orders on short notice, which directly affects competitiveness. The study’s methodology was developed using a mixed-methods approach. Interviews were conducted with various stakeholders in the ecosystem, which allowed the sector to be characterized as a hybrid system that requires innovation. Additionally, the quantitative component incorporated data from the Central Bank, the OEC, and the National Institute of Statistics to provide context for the sector’s environment. The strategic analysis was conducted using tools such as(...).
