Abstract

This thesis presents a technical and economic pre-feasibility assessment for the implementation of a specialized pet-friendly transportation service targeting travel agencies located in Santiago. The project addresses the growing demand for international pet transportation and the technical, regulatory, and health-related complexities that this process entails for the end user, with the agency acting as a specialized logistics coordinator. At the strategic level, a business model is defined based on differentiation through specialization, complying with the international standards of the IATA Live Animals Regulations and the requirements of the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service. A market share target of 2.5% is established, leveraging high-conversion distribution channels such as veterinary clinics and partnerships with airlines, noting that 70% of the operational workload is concentrated in management processes outside the customer’s line of sight. The financial analysis demonstrates the project’s profitability. Under a 50% financing structure, the Net Present Value (NPV) is $312,430,354 and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 52%, results that significantly exceed the weighted average cost of capital (WACC of 9.07%). The sensitivity analysis identifies the financial break-even point at a market penetration rate of 1.54%, which provides the project with a 38% safety margin against potential contractions in demand, confirming its robustness in the face of uncertain scenarios. Finally, it is concluded that the project is technically and economically viable, representing a strategic opportunity for the agency to diversify its revenue through a high-value-added service.
