Abstract
The present risk management model, which is understood as the process of identifying, assessing and reducing risks to an acceptable level and implementing the barriers necessary so that level is maintained as such, assuming that there is no one hundred percent certainty, is a model known and implemented by companies who crave success in pursuit of providing a quality service. In the above scenario, Lan Airlines, a successful company owes its reputation to always be at the forefront of international trends, that is why the need arises to establish a risk management model that extends beyond maintenance work (which is usually applied) and be conceived within the Flight Operations, in line with what was suggested by IATA, which, through its IOSA manual, it states: "The operator should have an organizational system of risk management, applicable to operations, maintenance and security functions, and also applicable to new initiatives that affect operations, maintenance and security. " Thus, the idea is to collect the necessary data, analyze it and then set it according to the conclusions arrived from a risk matrix that shows the strengths and weaknesses of the company in Flight Operations. To accomplish the above, data has been compiled and tabulated of all the audits made by the quality department of the company from 2001 until 2008 in the Flight Operations Division, as part of the quality system of Lan Airlines. The overall result showed 307 deviations based on 441 cases, which illustrates that nonconformity is not necessarily produced by a single cause. So they divide the area into four departments who work independently and therefore must be taken as four independent bodies that make up, in overall terms, the Directorate of Operations
