Abstract
The documented report below compiles the information analyzed and developed during the degree process, under the "Project Practice" modality. This work was carried out between March and October 2025 at the "MM-AC Arquitectos" office, under the guidance and supervision of architects Mauricio Méndez and Pablo Fulla. Regarding the chosen degree modality, I am integrating into a work and professional environment, putting into practice the knowledge acquired during my university education, performing professionally for a period of 8 months. Throughout the process, I developed three analysis themes based on the anchor project worked on during my stay at the MM-AC office. This project is based on "The Restoration of the Esplanade and Sanctuary of La Tirana," located in the commune of Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá region. The purpose of this project is to improve the public spaces of the La Tirana esplanade and its surroundings, taking into account the cultural character and thermal fluctuations typical of the area. Therefore, the three themes cover three relevant aspects of the project: the material aspect, focusing on the study and analysis of the area's climate and how these factors affect living in outdoor public spaces, understanding their impact on materiality, and how these adapt to the unique climatic characteristics of an arid or desert area. Under this approach, I seek to establish a technical basis to support adaptive design decisions in climatically demanding areas such as La Tirana and how this adapts year-round living and during the sanctuary's festivities. Regarding the second axis of this thesis, I focused on studying the human aspect, concentrating on the adaptability of architectural design in spaces with Sanskrit characteristics such as La Tirana, analyzing how architectural design should respond not only to functional criteria but also to cultural, symbolic, and community requirements that are activated during the festival of the Virgin of Carmen. I studied how the office's proposal fits into this cycle of rituals and cultural events that take place during the month of July(...).
