Abstract
En el presente trabajo de título, se estudia el caso particular de una compañía que cuenta con una reconocida trayectoria en la industria del papel, como lo es Papeles Cordillera S.A., la cual pertenece al holding de las empresas CMPC (Compañía Manufacturera de Papeles y Cartones).
Papeles Cordillera S.A. dispone de un elevado nivel de conocimiento en su área operacional, asociado tanto a procedimientos como a funciones/responsabilidades de cada cargo. Dicho conocimiento se caracteriza por poseer especificaciones altamente técnicas, que corresponden al funcionamiento de las distintas Máquinas Papeleras, las que, en general, son altamente complejas, técnicas y muy específicas. No obstante, hasta la actualidad no existe una gestión tal, que permita asegurarle a la organización que ese conocimiento perdurará dentro de ella, dado las personas que lo poseen se lo llevan consigo una vez que se desvinculan de la empresa, generando un vacío de conocimiento importante para las personas que ocupen posteriormente el cargo que ha quedado disponible. Este es el origen de una serie de dificultades que la empresa debe enfrentar cada vez que se producen desvinculaciones en cargos claves para la fabricación de papel.
Bajo este contexto, el presente estudio realiza una evaluación de las contribuciones que generaría a nivel de Gestión de Conocimiento Organizacional, la implementación de un Sistema Integrado de Gestión de Activos, como lo es la Herramienta PAS 55, en Papeles Cordillera S.A.
Lo primero a realizarse consiste en generar un estado del arte que permita interiorizar al lector en esta nueva Herramienta de Gestión de Activos, PAS 55, y en la Gestión del Conocimiento Organizacional. En ambos casos se hace un barrido de información, que va desde la definición, la evolución histórica, hasta especificaciones técnicas asociadas a ambas temáticas. Para finalmente, lograr su interconexión con el caso aplicado a la empresa chilena, Papeles Cordillera S.A.
En tanto, se entiende por Gestión del Conocimiento a un proceso sistemático e integrador de la coordinación de actividades, tales como: adquisición, creación, almacenaje y comunicación del conocimiento, con la finalidad de que individuos y grupos sean más efectivos y productivos en sus puestos de trabajo, cumpliendo con objetivos y metas organizacionales. Forman parte de esta gestión: el desarrollo de un nuevo conocimiento, la compartición del mismo, la combinación del conocimiento existente y su valoración dentro de la empresa.
Por su parte, PAS 55, en inglés Publicy Available Specification, se trata de una especificación estandarizada de dominio público, enfocada en la gestión optimizada de los activos dentro de una empresa, basada en mejores prácticas que permiten establecer y auditar un sistema integrado de gestión de activos y optimizarlo a lo largo de su Ciclo de Vida; esta herramienta busca alinear la Gestión de Activos con el Negocio. Se trata de gestionar todos los activos organizacionales, ya sean: físicos, humanos, financieros, datos e información, imagen pública, entre otros.
En definitiva, lograr el objetivo principal de este estudio, que es evaluar el aporte generado por la Herramienta PAS 55 a la Gestión del Conocimiento Organizativo, se realiza mediante una metodología exhaustiva de investigación en ambos aspectos, logrando establecer si PAS 55 es beneficiosa para que las empresas consigan gestionar adecuadamente sus activos intangibles, tales como el conocimiento humano adquirido a través del tiempo, para que éste sea mantenido dentro de las organizaciones y no sólo en las personas; entregando, finalmente, las correspondientes conclusiones obtenidas a raíz de este trabajo investigativo.
On this study, a particular case is analyzed on a company that has a recognized trajectory on the paper industry, such as Papeles Cordillera S.A., which belongs to CMPC (in Spanish, Compañía Manufacturera de Papeles y Cartones. In English, Papers and Cartons Manufacture Company) holding. Papeles Cordillera S.A. has a high knowledge level inside its operational area, related to procedures and functions/responsabilities of each charge inside the company. This knowledge is characterized for having high technical specifications related to the operation of different machines which, in general, are extremely complex, technical and very specific. However, it doesn’t exist the according management that allows the company to maintain this knowledge through time, because people that has this knowledge takes it away by the moment that they leave de company, creating a void of knowledge very important to people that takes the available charge. This is the beginning of series of problems that the company must face every time that people with key charges leaves the company. Under this context, the following study makes an evaluation of the benefits on the organizational knowledge management, the implementation of an integrated system of assets, using the PAS 55 tool in Papeles Cordillera S.A. The first step is to create a state of the art that allows an introduction to the reader into this tool and into the organizational knowledge management. In both cases, information as: Definition, historical evolution to technical specifications related to both topics. Finally, the mixtures of both topics are applied in a Chilean company case, such as Papeles Cordillera S.A. The organizational knowledge management refers to a systematic process and coordinator of activities, such as: Buying, creating, storing and communication of knowledge, with the objective that people and work teams become more effective and productive on its job places, allowing them to fulfill the achievements of the company. This management refers to: Developing a new knowledge, the sharing of it, the combination with the existent knowledge and its value in the company. On its side, PAS 55 (Public Available Specification) is related to a standardized specification of public domain, that focus on the optimized management of assets inside a company, based on better practice that allows to establish and control an integrated system on assets management and optimize it through its life cycle. This tool tries to line up the assets management with the business. It’s about on managing all the organizational assets: physical, human, economical, information, public image, etc. In order to achieve the prime objective of this study, which is to evaluate the benefits that the PAS 55 tool can give to the organizational knowledge management, an exhaustive method of research in both aspects is necessary, achieving to establish if the PAS 55 tool gives benefits to companies that seeks to manage correctly its intangible assets, such as human knowledge acquired through time, in order to keep them inside the companies and not only into people; delivering the according conclusions gotten on this research.
