Abstract
This thesis, developed in collaboration with SRK Consulting (Chile) SpA, provides a comprehensive understanding of mineral asset valuations, covering theoretical concepts and applicable regulations, and developing an integrated and systematic methodology for mineral asset valuation based on the main international codes: 'The CIMVAL code,' 'The VALMIN code,' 'The SAMVAL code,' 'SME Standards,' and the 'IMVAL Template.' The study investigates, analyzes, and gathers all essential information from each valuation code, detailing the standards and guidelines these codes define to adhere to best practices in mineral asset valuation in the mining industry. This gathered and documented information enables the creation of a valuation report that is reliable, transparent, and traceable, ensuring that the reader has all the necessary information to form a trustworthy and objective assessment of the work performed. This information also defines the types of properties and mining projects referenced by international codes, facilitating the selection of valuation approaches. Additionally, each valuation method is described and explained, both in words and with supporting diagrams, to promote a systematic development of these methods. Through the research, the parameters influencing valuation are identified: the valuation code, type of property and/or mining project, and the associated valuation approaches and methods. As a result, a systematic methodology for mining asset valuation is developed, beginning with the selection of valuation approaches for each property type at different development stages. Subsequently, all relevant information and data for the mining asset are gathered, analyzed, and verified, thus determining the type of property and its development stage. A diagram is then developed to guide the selection of valuation approaches, after which each methodology for the respective valuation methods is applied to obtain a valuation range for the mineral asset. Finally, valuations carried out by SRK Consulting (Chile) and (Australasia) are studied to exemplify and validate each proposed methodology. The result shows that using the proposed methodologies for the valuation methods yields results that are similar and comparable to those obtained in valuations performed by SRK, validating and verifying these methodologies.
