Abstract
The following work, propose a mathematical model and numerical method, based in finites differentials for simulating removal of heavy metals in tailing soils, through application of electrical fields in two dimensions. The model describes the transport coupled of the quantity of material and the charge, showing this to the potential generated in the soil along the whole process. The mechanisms which govern the process are the phenomena's of electro osmosis electro migration and diffusion as consequence of previous phenomena's. The model is applied for remediation of tailing soils belong to lixiviation plant of "El Teniente", modelling the removal of copper in solution of the tails as metal target. The validation of the model is done through experimental observations carry out at an electro remediation cell, design and build for this experiments, which ones can be used in electrokinetic's and electrodialysis to laboratory scale with a capacity estimated of 4 kgs. of tail soil.
