Abstract
The present study has established as main objective to assess the implementation of a pilot system for maintenance management and operations of public transportation in Santiago, specifically in the San Jose terminal bus of the company SUBUS Chile S.A.The implementation of this management system falls within of the public transport system in the metropolitan region. This system aims to improve operational performance indicators of public transport through the implementation of modern methods of management fleet and visual management methods.Assessment management system of maintenance and operations is performed through the analysis of each area and stakeholders involved in the system. Specifically the work is focused on the maintenance area, operations area and the control tower at the San Jose terminal. In practical terms, the implementation of this management system has meant an increase average of 15% in the capacity to generate work orders. In addition, it has surpassed 83% company's goal compliance of closing work orders. Finally, the company has achieve a decrease average of 5% in the number of buses in service interrupted belonging to the terminal in question. The implementation of the control tower has caused an important increasing of the management capacity in the operations area, an augment in the management capacity of work and maintenance personnel, and finally the company has achieved the improving coordination between these two areas, allowing to enhance and implement an efficient use of the terminal bus studied fleet.
