GESTIÓN DE RIESGOS: EVALUACIÓN DE LA CONVENIENCIA DE INVERTIR EN UN CENTRO DE CONTROL DE CONTIGENCIA EN AGUAS ANDINAS S.A.

Abstract

Las empresas de hoy, grandes o pequeñas, públicas o privadas, se ven enfrentadas a una serie de riesgos que pueden afectar el logro de sus objetivos. Estos objetivos pueden corresponder a los más variados ámbitos o actividades: iniciativas estratégicas, operaciones, procesos, proyectos, etc., los que tienen efecto en sus resultados, y afectan -en forma directa o indirecta- a los stakeholders, medioambiente y sociedad en general. Las empresas necesitan, por lo tanto, establecer un adecuado proceso de gestión de riesgos que les permita anticiparse y gestionar los posibles resultados adversos y sus consecuencias, garantizando así su supervivencia, prestigio y estabilidad financiera. La presente tesis –junto con revisar el estado del arte de la gestión de riesgos- desarrolla una metodología de gestión de riesgos a partir de estándares internacionales y la aplica a un caso concreto de Aguas Andinas S.A., correspondiente al ámbito tecnológico. El aporte del trabajo se estima en 2 aspectos: Introducir la temática de la gestión de riesgos, considerando además que será motivo de una Norma Internacional, a publicarse a fines de 2008 o principios de 2009 (ISO 31000). Aportar una metodología útil que permita aplicar y extender este tipo de análisis y evaluaciones a cualquier ámbito que lo requiera.The companies today, big or small, public or private, are faced to a series of risks that may affect the achievement of their objectives. These objectives can correspond to the most varied environments or activities: strategic initiatives, operations, processes, projects, etc., those that have effect in their results, and affect, either directly or indirectly to the stakeholders, environment and society in general. The companies need, therefore, to establish an adequate risk management process that allows them to anticipate and manage the potential adverse outcomes and their consequences, thus ensuring their survival, prestige and financial stability. This thesis, together with reviewing the state of the art of risk management, develop a methodology for managing risks from international standards and applies it to a specific case of Aguas Andinas SA, corresponding to the field of technology. The contribution of the work is estimated at 2 points: To introduce the topic of risk management, considering also that it will be reason of an International Standard (ISO 31000) to be published in late 2008 or early 2009. Providing a useful methodology to implement and extend this kind of analysis and evaluations to any area that requires it.
