Abstract
order to understand the architectural problem we must first locate ourselves in Valparaiso, specifically in the historic center of Valparaiso, the area where the first foundations of the city were laid in 1536, near the church of the Matriz (point 0 of the city). It is an area that is very abandoned and in a deplorable condition. Most of the buildings are in very bad condition and some of them are inhabited by unwanted tenants (squatters). This situation has led to abandonment on the part of the inhabitants, causing insecurity in the area, which makes the area not very busy. Despite this situation, the remaining inhabitants of the area use these properties as opportunities for commercial and cultural activation, proposing attractive options for the inhabitants of the area. Among these buildings, we focus on the BUSTAMANTE BUILDING, located on Bustamante, Marquéz and Pascal streets. This building housed cultural, commercial and residential activities in the area. Among its main programs was the theater company SalaPascal 79, located on Pascal Street. Among its activities were present plays, music and dance. These activities took place inside the venue and in the surrounding environment. Some examples of this are the front garden of the Matríz Church, the Echaurrén square and the streets of the city. The importance of the building is the reactivatio n of the area providing education and cultural instances for students, teachers, residents and tourists. However, on October 23, 2023, in the early hours of the morning, the building suffered a structural fire, causing the total loss of the fourth floor and leaving only the facade of the third floor. As a result of this situation, the building was abandoned. The project proposal consists of RECOVERING and REACTIVATING the cultural activities that give life to the native culture of the port neighborhood, providing spaces for the actors and the community opportunities for creation, exhibition and space, ENHANCING the cultural heritage and education about performance disciplines. For this it is important to consider that the building had a program focused on culture, housing and commerce.
