Abstract
The investigation analyzes the phenomenal of the political participation of the students of the Technical University Federico Santa María – Central House. In the first instance, a bibliographic review is carried out on the concept of political participation based on studies that describe it from different perspectives (electoral, social, and organizational) in its different spheres of action and subsequent effects. Next, we study the statistical tool called Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), wich corresponds to the integration of several statistical and econometric techniques, including regression models, factor analysis, among others. This is usually used in models that need to verify associations between constructs, wich are variables that are difficult to model in classic models of linear regression, for example, customer satisfaction, communicational domains, various ways of perceiving intelligence, etc. Hence its recurrent us in market research and psychology as a modeling guide. For these purposes a theoretical model is developed that can give explanation to the political participation, composed of 6 factors. Trust, Effectiveness, Incidence, Participation properly, Civic Education and Media. Consist with this conceptual framework, a survey is developed that is applied to 232 students of the institution. It contains a questionnaire on a Likert scale composed of 43 items that make up the variables of the structural model. From the previous research, the low political participation is pointed out as a transversal phenomenon in Chilean youth, with this study we seek to verify if the students respond to the theoretical model proposed and if there are valid associations among the selected variables that can explain the phenomenon.
