Abstract
The present work of title was produced in the company Goodyear Chile, which had as its purpose the reduction of defective tires, by default of open lateral splicing, through the systematic application of the Six Sigma theory, structured treatment four of five steps, of the methodology known for its acronym in English as DMAIC. When developing the methodology, the defining phase began, investigating the historical losses due to the defect in the plant, which amounted to an average of 363 tires per month in the period between October 2017 and March 2018, in Division B, in charge of of the processes of construction, vulcanization and testing, allowing to define the area, machine and code that generated greater contribution to the total amount of open lateral. Subsequently, the measurement phase continued, in which the data collection and monitoring of the amount of defective tires that were being generated in the construction machines were basically carried out. A baseline of the project was established 9.7 tires per day for every 10,000 vulcanized tires, averaged between built and vulcanized, and set the objective of reducing this loss by 25%, corresponding to 7.2 tires per day. It should be understood that, both baseline and project objective, depend on the vulcanization production established by the plant, which were 17,500 tires per day, therefore, remain at 13 and 17 tires per day, objective and baseline respectively(...).
