Abstract
During the various technological innovations that have emerged throughout the decade, power electronics has seen constant development in improving or optimizing existing topologies. One of the most famous ones is Class D amplifiers, recognized for their high efficiency and low energy loss. One of the pioneering companies in the development of these topologies is MERUS with its multi-level Class D amplifiers, which make possible the design of portable speakers with considerable lifespan and high audio quality. This device, with its innovative 5-level technology, has generated great interest in the audio industry due to its superior efficiency and its ability to produce minimal harmonic distortion. Throughout this research, the MA12070 integrated circuit is examined with the EVAL AUDIO MA12070 evaluation board, breaking down its components and understanding its operation. Additionally, tests and measurements are conducted to evaluate its performance in different configurations and modes of operation. The results provide a detailed insight into the efficiency and performance of the amplifier in various situations. Practical implications of these findings are also explored, especially regarding the design of portable audio systems and similar devices. Furthermore, looking forward, exploring the possibilities of next-generation amplifiers that can generate 9 voltage levels using a 5-level amplifier with PS-PWM modulation.
