Abstract
The present work aims to develop an experimental analysis of the characteristic curves of centrifugal pumps operating in single, series, and parallel configurations, based on the test bench implemented at the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María. The study seeks to validate the metrological performance of the bench and to compare the experimental results with theoretical predictions and manufacturer curves, following the guidelines of the ISO 9906:2012 standard. Measurements were carried out using industrial-grade instrumentation: a Siemens electromagnetic flowmeter, WIKA and Danfoss pressure transmitters, an RTD Pt100 temperature sensor, and Siemens Sinamics frequency inverters, with data acquisition performed in 60 s averaging windows. The results demonstrated excellent repeatability of the system (deviations below 3%) and satisfactory temporal stability, confirming the reliability of the bench for academic applications. However, significant fluctuations and high uncertainties in suction pressures were observed, exceeding the tolerance limits of ISO 9906 grade 3, mainly due to turbulence, microbubbles, and sensor sensitivity under low-pressure conditions. Additionally, it was verified that the temperature recorded during the single-pump tests of Pump 2 did not correspond to its actual circuit, since the sensor was installed at the suction line of Pump 1, introducing a systematic bias in the thermal corrections(...).
