Abstract
This Product Design Engineering degree project presents the design of a tool for stimulating speech in children with Down syndrome at an early age, in the family context. The objective was to design a product that supports the continuity of speech therapies at home with the participation of the family. A bibliographic review was carried out on the development of speech in children with Down syndrome, identifying morphological barriers and speech disorders. In addition, through interviews with speech therapists, families and field observations, the specific needs of children and their families were identified. Using the Design Thinking methodology, a configurable toolkit was designed that includes magnetic blocks and visual components such as pictograms and articulatory gestures, which facilitate the articulation of phonemes. These elements allow therapeutic exercises to be carried out in a playful and accessible way within the family-home context. The results show that the tool supports speech development in children, encourages family participation in home therapies and supports speech therapies with professionals in therapeutic contexts. Validation by experts and users confirmed its effectiveness, contributing to the communicative and social development of children with Down syndrome.
