Abstract
This work consists of an in-depth analysis of the operation and failure modes of the tracking systems of photovoltaic panels or Solar Trackers, located in northern Chile. These teams are responsible for supporting the photovoltaic panels and rotate them throughout the day to achieve a perpendicular position between the panel and the sun's rays, thus increasing the energy efficiency of the panel. The problem that exists with the current solar tracking plants is that the maintenance plans are based on projects carried out in other countries with very different environmental contexts, and today our Solar Trackers are already showing symptoms of failures such as, for example, the deviation in the angular position of some equipment, which is a very important problem considering that it is about equipment that bases its profitability on the accuracy of its angular position. The main objective of this work is to determine the way in which a photovoltaic panel tracking system can fail, considering the context in which it operates. To achieve this objective, it was decided defining the theory that supports the use of a solar tracking system. Subsequently, the operation and the parts of the Solar Tracker system to be analyzed were defined. Then an FMEA analysis was made on the parts or components considered.
