Abstract
In BIOFACTOR used lubricating oil is processed, this one contains 4% of (estimated) naphtha. This naphtha is characterized using an atmospheric distillation test (ASTM D86). The test determined that the naphtha contained between 30 - 35% of solvents. These solvents are mineral spirit and VM&P Naphtha (Varnish Makers and Painter), used mainly as paint thinners and stain removers. The designed process consists of a distillation column that is operated in two stages. In stage 1 the BIOFACTOR naphtha is processed, recovering the VM&P Naphtha and obtaining an intermediate product. The intermediate product is processed in step 2, white spirit and gasoil are recovered. The column designed is a packed tower, has 30 stages equivalent to a packed height of 30 ft (9.15 m) and a diameter of 1 ft (0.30 m).The solvent recovery plant is capable of processing 360,000 gallons of naphtha per month at a rate of 500 gal/h. In BIOFACTOR there are available 7,200 gallons of naphtha per month, to be processed it is estimated that they recover between 1,080 – 1650 gallons of VM&P Naphtha and 860 – 1,080 gallons of white spirit. The estimated total investment is 567,621.39 US$.
