Abstract
This study analyzes factors aecting bicycle use in relation with other transportation alternatives forpeople going to and from work. For this purpose, we propose a multinomial logit model using data from theOrigin - Destination Survey conducted in 2012 by Chilean Government, which collected an enormous amountof data on revealed preferences. Data was further extended and complemented using a governmental researchthat focused on the evolution and current state of bicycle path and lanes in Santiago (Chile). The multinomiallogit model was then used to predict changes in transportation preferences for dierent scenarios. As expected, results show that travel distance and travel time are the main factors that influence bicycle use when going toor from work. Interesting we were able to show that if all current transportation initiatives to improve thecycle network in Santiago are implemented, then the preference to use the bicycle as the principal means oftransport would be increased by 16.2
