Abstract
This research addresses the evaluation, analysis, and optimization of the sales force in commercial organizations from an applied perspective, using the retail operation of Valvoline Chile in the Metropolitan Region as a reference case. The study compares two differentiated functional profiles within the same commercial structure: the Key Account Manager (KAM) Retail RM and the Generalist Commercial Executive (EC), seeking to evaluate how heterogeneous organizational design translates into observable differences in portfolio structure, recurrence, profitability, and temporal stability. The conceptual framework integrates contributions from contemporary sales management, including the productivity system perspective, the commitment-trust theory of relationship marketing, strategic Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Key Account Management, and customer profitability management. The methodology adopts a quantitative approach with a non-experimental descriptive-comparative design and a single-case study strategy, supported by cleaned transactional records from 2025. The empirical analysis confirms statistically meaningful differences between profiles: the KAM concentrates 51.2% of sales in its top five clients (vs. 37.5% for the EC), shows higher average recurrence (4.5 vs. 3.5 active months per client), and exhibits substantially greater monthly margin stability. Both profiles converge in profitability (70.5% vs. 69.5% gross contribution margin) despite operating with distinct commercial logics. Five technically grounded optimization guidelines are proposed(...).
