Terminal de cruceros y centro comunitario. Recuperación del puerto minero de Guayacán, Coquimbo. Rehabilitación del paisaje industrial y su reactivación como espacio turístico y cultural

Abstract

El presente proyecto aborda la recuperación del Puerto Minero de Guayacán, ubicado en la ciudad de Coquimbo. Puerto, históricamente ligado a la actividad minera y portuaria, que constituye un componente relevante del paisaje y de la identidad local, tanto por su valor patrimonial no declarado, como su localización estratégica en la bahía. Sin embargo, su condición actual evidencia un proceso de degradación gradual física y funcional que amenaza eliminar su presencia activa dentro del tejido urbano, así como su potencial, como espacio significativo para la ciudad. Frente a esta problemática, el proyecto plantea una intervención arquitectónica y urbana, Recuperando el legado histórico y material de la infraestructura existente, Rehabilitando el paisaje con un enfoque funcional y sostenible para Reactivar la zona mediante la incorporación de nuevos usos. La propuesta busca resignificar el paisaje industrial existente, evitando su desmantelamiento mediante la incorporación de nuevos usos turísticos, culturales y comunitarios que permitan una apropiación contemporánea del lugar, sin borrar su memoria ni su escala industrial. El proyecto se configura como un nodo articulador entre ciudad y el borde costero, proponiendo un Terminal de Cruceros y un Centro Comunitario situándolos en un espacio de encuentro y transición de dos usuarios, el cual no solo recibe a visitantes y turistas, sino también ofrecer a la comunidad de Guayacán un espacio activo, accesible y representativo de su historia y su identidad local. La propuesta se posiciona como una estrategia de transformación respetuosa con la memoria del lugar, fomentando el turismo patrimonial como motor de reactivación económica y cultural. De esta manera, se reconoce el pasado industrial del territorio, se integra a las dinámicas contemporáneas y se proyecta un futuro en el que patrimonio, paisaje y comunidad convivan en un mismo espacio regenerado.

This project addresses the restoration of the Guayacán Mining Port, located in the city of Coquimbo. The port, historically linked to mining and port activity, is an important part of the landscape and local identity, both for its undeclared heritage value and its strategic location in the bay. However, its current condition shows signs of gradual physical and functional degradation that threatens to eliminate its active presence within the urban fabric, as well as its potential as a significant space for the city. In response to this problem, the project proposes an architectural and urban intervention, recovering the historical and material legacy of the existing infrastructure and rehabilitating the landscape with a functional and sustainable approach to reactivate the area by incorporating new uses. The proposal seeks to redefine the existing industrial landscape, avoiding its dismantling by incorporating new tourist, cultural, and community uses that allow for a contemporary appropriation of the site without erasing its memory or industrial scale. The project is configured as a connecting node between the city and the coastline, proposing a Cruise Terminal and a Community Center located in a meeting and transition space for two types of users. It not only welcomes visitors and tourists, but also offers the community of Guayacán an active, accessible space that represents its history and local identity. The proposal is positioned as a transformation strategy that respects the memory of the place, promoting heritage tourism as an engine of economic and cultural revival. In this way, the industrial past of the territory is recognized, integrated into contemporary dynamics, and a future is projected in which heritage, landscape, and community coexist in the same regenerated space.
