Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the current regulations on fire safety and comparison with a methodology to be developed in this work that incorporates the overstrength of the structure to the cases of loads that control the design structure. The Ordenanza General de Urbanismo y Construcción establishes the minimum fire safety standards that the entire building must comply with according to its occupancy classification (residential, offices, commercial centers, industrial buildings and others) in order to protect the health, safety and public welfare. The state of the art of international standards that are related to fire safety is currently more advanced than the Chilean standards. Therefore through this thesis current legislation and international standards will be study in order to generate a discussion regarding the safety of the structure by evaluating its performance in the event of fire.To fulfill this objective it will be prepared a database that includes the design of warehouse prototypes which are more common in the industry. By doing that it will be obtained the primary and secondary structure elements performance during fire and enough data to generate a discussion on minimum fire protection requirements and their effects on structural elements.
