dc.description.abstractSi bien Chile, es el principal productor de cobre a nivel mundial, la actividad y desarrollos, de esta industria se centran en los procesos de extracción y refinado, con muy escaso desarrollo de la industria de valor agregado sobre el metal. La explotación y venta del metal como materia prima, incluso muchas veces en estado mineral como concentrado sin refinar, agrega escaso valor, llegando solo al nivel de Comoditie sujeto a las fluctuaciones del mercado internacional. Las alternativas de innovación en nuevos usos del cobre se enmarcan en su uso como conductor y más recientemente en la explotación de su capacidad antimicrobiana y anti incrustante. Respecto de la cualidad antimicrobiana del cobre, existen suficientes estudios y acreditaciones de su efectividad en la disminución sustancial de cargas bacterianas, sin embargo, su utilización en la industria hospitalaria se suscribe a experiencias piloto sin contar con una política pública de promoción de su uso. Esta tesina explora los avances de tecnologías de usos del cobre en la disminución cargas bacterianas y su proyección en la reducción de las infecciones intra hospitalarias, se exploran antecedentes técnicos y económicos que dan luces de la posibilidad de introducción y desarrollo de políticas públicas que generen una vinculación virtuosa entre nuevos usos intensivos del cobre y un impacto sustancial en la mejora de condiciones sanitarias de bioseguridad, con la reducción de infecciones intrahospitalariases_CL
dc.description.abstractAlthough Chile is the main producer of copper worldwide, the activity and developments of this industry are focused on the extraction and refining processes, with very little development of the value added industry on the metal. The exploitation and sale of the metal as a raw material, even often in the mineral state as unrefined concentrate, adds little value, reaching only the level of Comoditie subject to fluctuations in the international market. The alternatives of innovation in new uses of copper are framed in its use as a driver and more recently in the exploitation of its antimicrobial and anti-fouling capacity. Regarding the antimicrobial quality of copper, there are enough studies and accreditations of its effectiveness in the substantial reduction of bacterial loads, however, its use in the hospital industry subscribes to pilot experiences without having a public policy to promote its use. This thesis explores the advances of technologies of copper uses in reducing bacterial loads and their projection in the reduction of intrahospital infections, exploring technical and economic antecedents that give light of the possibility of introduction and development of public policies that generate a virtuous link between new intensive uses of copper and a substantial impact on the improvement of biosecurity sanitary conditions, with the reduction of intrahospital infectionseng
