Abstract
La presente investigación corresponde a un estudio de imagen cuyo objetivo es el describir cuantitativa mente atributos relacionados con la imagen profesional y el éxito laboral, para grupos de ingenieros comerciales e ingenieros civiles industriales de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Campus Santiago, titulados entre los años 2004 y 2007.La evaluación se realizó recogiendo, por medio de cuestionarios realizados a profesionales titulados entre los años 2004 y 2007, de ingeniería comercial e ingeniería civil industrial de la USM, Campus Santiago, información sobre atributos relacionados con la imagen profesional y el éxito laboral. Cuestionario donde además fue aplicado un test sicológico y un test de observación para medir el lenguaje corporal y analizar las variables relacionadas con la apariencia física, respectivamente. Los resultados observados se analizaron en la justificación de que la imagen profesional es un factor importante en el éxito laboral de los profesionales que estudiaron estas carreras. En este sentido, la imagen profesional tiene especial significancia en la generación de una mayor red de contactos de estos profesionales de la Universidad Santa María, Campus Santiago. Y de este modo, los resultados arrojaron que en el caso del análisis conjunto, que abarcó a ingenieros comerciales e ingenieros civiles industriales, se generaron 4 perfiles, en donde sus diferencias principales estuvieron enfocadas en la distribución del tiempo que poseían entre el trabajo y su vida personal, en la personalidad y en el desarrollo de diversas competencias en su época universitaria. En el caso de los ingenieros comerciales, se generaron 3 tipos de perfiles los cuales se diferenciaron principalmente en relación a su red de contactos, al tiempo destinado para su vida personal, a su apariencia física y a su personalidad. Y por último, en el caso de ingeniería civil industrial se generaron 2 perfiles, los cuales se diferenciaron principalmente por la relación que tienen ellos con las demás personas, por su personalidad y por el desarrollo de competencias adquiridas en la universidad.

Questionnaire which was alsoapplied a psychological test and an observational test to measure body language and analyze the variables related to physical appearance, respectively.The observed results were discussed in the justification that the professional image is an important factor in the successful employment of professionals who studied these majors. In this sense, the professional image has special significance in the generation of a bigger network of professional contacts of the Santa Maria University, Campus Santiago.Andso, the results showed that in the case of joint analysis, covering commercialengineers and Industrial civil engineers, 4 profiles were generated, where their main differences were focused on the distribution of time between work and their personal life,personality and development of various skills in their college days. In the case of commercialengineers, were generated 3 types of profiles which differed mainly in relation to its networking, to the time devoted to his personal life, his physical appearance and personality. And finally, in the case of industrial civil engineering 2 profiles were generated, which are distinguished primarily by the relationship they have with others, for his personality and the development of skills acquired in college.
