Abstract

BioPlanner, developed in an academic context under time and resource constraints, prioritized the implementation of functionalities over the systematic evaluation of its quality attributes, meaning there was no objective evidence as to whether its architecture was ready to operate in a real production environment. This uncertainty represents a direct risk to the product’s business objectives, as it compromises its ability to respond to high-demand scenarios, facilitate maintenance, and evolve safely. To address this, the SAEMAT extension of the SEMAT Kernel was applied, identifying the prioritized quality attributes (Security, Scalability, and Maintainability) and reconstructing five ADRs from the development team’s tacit knowledge, which were then evaluated using a procedure inspired by the DCAR method. The evaluation revealed concrete weaknesses in Security, highlighting the lack of authentication between the backend and the recommendation microservice, and the inconsistent application of the authentication mechanism in the backend, the latter rated as critical for exposing user data without access control; based on this, improvement proposals and an implementation plan prioritized by severity were formulated. As future work, it is recommended to re-evaluate the architecture once the improvements have been incorporated, extend the analysis to other quality attributes, and assess BioPlanner’s compliance with Law 21.719 on personal data protection, which will take full effect in December 2026.
