Abstract
In the following work, computer simulations were performed using the discrete 3-dimensional element method in order to predict the wear and tear that is generated in the coatings of a SAG mill. The computer simulations were performed in Rocky software version 4.06. For this, the computers available by the computer mechanics laboratory and a high-performance server were used. Following this, the simulation results were analyzed in a design software, CAD, from Autodesk Inventor. Results that will be used to determine the loss of height in the lifters of a SAG mill. The use of Rocky software is an important part of this title work. Several simulations were carried out in order to obtain consistent results, parameter calibration and in the shortest possible time. It was necessary to calibrate parameters and variables to obtain a feasible simulation to execute in a reasonable time. Therefore, the set up and post process of the simulation are part of this title work. The simulation was calibrated according to parameters acquired from a bibliographic investigation that is attached in this work and based on practical data obtained in the field of what happens with a mining equipment. The comminution equipment corresponds to a SAG mill of the Andina company, Codelco Chile. The results point to the wear measured longitudinally in the ore lifters that are part of the lining of the mill. The results obtained were compared with the practical values collected, obtaining a comparative analysis of the lifter's height profiles at different simulation times and simulation conditions, such as the level of filling, different ball ratio of the total load and different spin speeds of the simulated SAG mil.
