Abstract
mundial.
According to analysis of the statistical data on the behavior of the major currencies on the market, it has been observed that during the past two years these have been, a loss of value against the most traded currency that is the American dollar. “Depreciation” it is called when the currency is under a regime of flexible exchange rate, and “devaluation”, when the currency is controlled under a regime of fixed exchange rate. The Euro (€) has depreciated 19.2% against the US dollar since January 2014 to date; British Pound (£) did it 5.5%, also against the Dollar, the Euro has fallen 14.5% compared to the British Pound, the Japanese Yen (¥) has depreciated 18,7% against the dollar in the same period, after that the Chinese Yuan was devaluated 4.6% in August of this year. It has been due to this behavior that different analysts has indicated that the world is facing a so-called "currency war," which is that different countries are dropped its currency, either through measures that depreciate it, or simply devalue versus other major currencies, to improve the performance of their exports, discouraging imports and thereby increasing the growth of its Gross Domestic Product. In the first two parts of this document, we deliver basic and general concepts that allow understanding the subsequent analysis carried out in the third and fourth of writing regarding the situation observed in the global economy.
