Abstract
This document reports the results achieved of the study and technical evaluationof a commercial device called "HHO gas generator for internal combustion engine,"which is installed to be tested in a diesel four-stroke supercharged engine, available in theLaboratory of thermofluids Department of Mechanical Engineering UTFSM.The device is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions, for operation in mode"on demand", this mean that, the HHO gas is produced and consumed by the enginecontinuously, without prior storage. The electrical energy suply systemm (alternator andbattery) provides the electrical energy required for the process of "electrolysis" thatdevelops inside the device (cell) to generate the HHO gas, this gas containing H2, O2, andsteam water, and is fed by "spraying" directly into the air intake systems.Pre-defined engine tests were develop in a hydraulic brake dynamometer, loadconditions and speed, they were maintained constant running the engine with diesel fuel(obtaining baseline) and then activated cell and generating gas that powers the engine, without changing the this operating point.Operating parameters of the engine as the effective power, torque, fuelconsumption and emissions were registered. As final results and according to the methodology and comparing the behavior ofthe above parameters, minimal influence is observed in the operation of the engine byincorporating HHO gas, which can be seen in table 1.0., similar results are obtain withengineeemissions.
