COMPORTAMIENTO HISTÓRICO DE LAS RESERVAS REMANENTES DE COBRE ENTRE LOS AÑOS 1900-2010

Abstract

La presente memoria de título analiza la evolución de las reservas remanentes de cobre y la incidencia tanto cualitativa como cuantitativa a nivel mundial de las variables de producción, consumo, población y PIB durante los años 1900 y 2010. Esto se realiza con la finalidad de examinar las principales versiones planteadas sobre el agotamiento del metal rojo en la actualidad. Para dar cumplimiento a lo anterior, se analizaron los datos de reservas remanentes por década, para posteriormente asociar los resultados obtenidos a sucesos históricos que pudieran impactar en estas. Posteriormente, se realizó un modelamiento de series entre las reservas remanentes y las variables de interés con el fin de estudiar cuantitativamente la relación entre ellas. Finalmente, los resultados obtenidos se compararon con las posturas sobre el agotamiento del metal rojo. Durante el periodo completo de estudio las reservas remanentes de cobre aumentaron de 25 [MT] a 550 [MT], lo cual es equivalente a un crecimiento de 2,9% anual. Además, los desarrollos tecnológicos de molienda fina, flotación y SX-EW pueden ser considerados dentro de los sucesos históricos más importantes en el comportamiento de estas. En cuanto al análisis cuantitativo, durante el periodo de ajuste se observó que el ajuste lineal, logarítmico y cuadrático presentó un error promedio anual en términos absolutos menor al 10%, mientras que el ajuste potencial obtuvo resultados cercanos al 20%. Por otra parte, durante el periodo de proyección se obtuvo que las variables con menores errores promedio anuales fueron las de consumo rezagado con ajuste cuadrático, población rezagada con ajuste logarítmico, producción con ajuste cuadrático, producción rezagada con ajuste potencial y PIB con ajuste lineal

This research analyzes the evolution of the remaining copper reserves and the qualitative and quantitative incidence of production, consumption, population and GDP variables at world level during the years 1900 and 2010. This is done with the purpose of examining the main versions of the current depletion of the red metal. In order to comply with the above, the data on remaining reserves per decade were analyzed, in order to subsequently associate the results obtained with historical events that could have an impact on them. Subsequently, a series modeling was carried out between the remaining reserves and the variables of interest in order to quantitatively study the relationship between them. As for the quantitative analysis, during the adjustment period it was observed that the linear, logarithmic and quadratic adjustment presented an average annual error in absolute terms of less than 10%, while the potential adjustment obtained results close to 20%. On the other hand, during the projection period, the variables with the lowest average annual errors were lagged consumption with quadratic adjustment, lagged population with logarithmic adjustment, production with quadratic adjustment, lagged production with potential adjustment and GDP with linear adjustment
