Abstract
El año 2008 el contrato minero Finning- Escondida (entidad que genera el 40% de las
ganancias de Finning Sudamérica cuya flota de camiones de extracción CAT 797 es
la más grande del mundo) realizó un seguimiento al comportamiento de los equipos
CAT 797 y la incidencia en la salud de estos por parte de la gestión de los
departamentos de ingeniería. La información recopilada abrió las puertas para
destinar fondos del contrato en fortalecer la gestión de mantenimiento existente. Esto
significó destinar profesionales, comprar herramientas, capacitar, etc. de tal manera
mejorar la disponibilidad y confiabilidad de los equipos.
La principal motivación del estudio radica en establecer que tan efectiva fue la
implementación durante los tres años posteriores al 2008 y a su vez revelar si existen
mejoras a realizar hoy que permitan un desempeño sobresaliente de los camiones de
extracción 797.
Considerando la interrogante ¿Qué tan cuantificable son los beneficios obtenidos hoy
versus la inversión realizada el 2008? La metodología ocupada incluye entrevistas y
encuestas al personal con liderazgo influyente (supervisores, jefes de operaciones,
lideres de área) cuya estancia en el contrato registre 3 o mas años y así conocer de
primera fuente la efectividad del proceso desarrollado, a lo anterior se suma una
minuciosa revisión de documentos que permitan definir cuales pudieran ser los costos
directos e indirectos y beneficios relacionados durante los tres años transcurridos.
