Abstract
The process of sampling of blastholes constitutes a routine activity in the mining operations to open pit and that is used in the process of definition of the materials. This task is susceptible to random and systematic errors since it is a process that is not completely automated and there is human intervention in its different stages, so it is not difficult to make mistakes that are added to the intrinsic nature of mineralization (fundamental error). The grades of these samples may be disturbed in different magnitude depending of the thoroughness with which this task is performed. The errors impact directly in the incorrect classification of the blocks sent to a processing plant or dump. Those blocks of ore sent to the dump (waste) constitute direct losses and the waste blocks (material below cuttoff grade) sent to the processing plant cannot compensate this loss. This is why result interest to analyze the economic impact that has the presence of bias and precision in the grades during the blasthole sampling process.
