Abstract
Certainly, the number of people accessing different applications in a daily basis from their mobile devices has grown at an overwhelming pace in the last few years, so the mobile application development is a vital issue. However, these applications are mainly divided into two categories: native apps, which are developed to run exclusively in a particular platform, and Web apps, which exist on the internet and they are accessed through the device browser, regardless of the platform on which the srnartphone operates. Each has advantages and disadvantages relative to the other one, so establish which one is easier to use or which one is more appropriate in a certain scenario is an extremely complex process. This document contains a comparison study of usability for a set of applications, in both of their versions, native and Web, conducted with the participation of real users from each of the tested apps. Information derived from the study is related to the users' perception regarding the application version tested, the time it took to fulfill the objectives and the difficulties they faced to complete the task. According to these data, there are slight differences between the apps, which determines a mild superiority level of the native version. Nevertheless, due to the difference found between versions is minimum, it is possible to establish basic guidelines that help designers and developers to decide when to build one or the other.
