Abstract
The present thesis report consisted of carrying out a study to increase the capacity of the New Alkylation unit of ENAP Aconcagua Refinery through the development of a simulation model of the unit in order to use it as a tool for the analysis of the process and for the detection of bottleneck. The model relates the main sections of the process, using the olefin load and Butamer saturated butane load as input variables, solving all the intermediate and exit streams of the process, as well as the rating of the simulated equipment. The results of the simulation to increase capacity were used to perform hydraulic studies of the pumps included, thermal study of the heat transfer equipment and fractionation study of the towers involved in the model to determine bottlenecks and propose the necessary modifications to achieve the desired capacity increase. The unit has a design capacity of 1083 m3/d and was evaluated at capacity of 1330 m3/d and 1600 m3/d of olefinic load at design conditions. For the first case of capacity increase, a bottleneck was detected in exchanger C-1959, which corresponds to the alkylate cooler; in the C-1960AF air cooler corresponding to the condenser of refrigerant and in the double tube exchanger C-1965 that preheats the feed to the depropanizer. In addition, bottlenecks were detected in pumps J-1951 A / B, J-1952 A / B, J-1953 A / B, J-1955 A / B, J-1956 A / B and J-1962 A / B. And flood problems in the towers E-1951 and E-1952. For the second case of capacity increase, bottlenecks are added in the J-1954 A / B, J-1963 A / B and J-1964 A / B pumps and flood problems in the E-1953 tower. As a result of the study, the heat transfer areas required by the simulated heat exchangers, flow specifications, height and power of pump revamp and stages of the fractionation towers that must be modified to reach greater capacity of alkylate production are indicated.
