Abstract
The aim of this study is start up a wind-tunnel from thermo-hydraulic laboratory, located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Santiago. To achieve this objective, the wind-tunnel operation was studied. In addition, its parameters were calibrated and adjusted to the operational requirements of the laboratory. The original wind-tunnel design was improved to achieve the data collection. The speed inside of the wind-tunnel was evaluated and measured at different frequencies in order to obtain a calibration parameter that related the speed with the frequency. The results obtained allowed to understand the behavior of the wind for smooth plate and rough plate at different distances and heights, thus achieving the calculation of plate thickness. In addition, the plots and data obtained allow differentiation between laminar or turbulent flow. Finally, a teaching guide was elaborated in order to study the boundary layer and calculate the plate thickness at the laboratory scale.
