The Center for Pedagogical Information of the Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ACA), better known as CIPA, is today a reality. Since its inception in 2008, CIPA has evolved to become an information center that meets all the requirements to be integrated into the educational processes carried out by ACA teachers of aeronautical courses. The CIPA is mainly composed of a database which is accessible through a computer-based platform, whereby users withdraw the information needed with the help of a browser. CIPA currently has educational material on the following subjects: Propulsion I and II, Meteorology, Advanced Aviation, Planning and Design of Airports and Airport Management and Operations. It houses over 1,000 files, covering approximately 90% of the thematic areas of the programs in each course, which in turn constitute 17% of aviation courses taught in the Academy. This thesis represents a contribution to the design and implementation of an Information System which monitors and organizes the flow of arrival of incoming new teaching material fed to CIPA database, allowing the ongoing updating and quality improvement of the content of the aeronautical courses residing in it. The research, on which the theoretical framework underlies this project, has been based on two concepts: First, the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in education, one of the backbones of the Chilean educational reform program, enabling faculty broad access to updated and didactic educational material, indeed the ultimate purpose of the CIPA. Secondly, the Information System, subject of this thesis, is based on the constructionist theories of education, which postulate that learning is built by the students themselves, through their interaction with information sources, assisted by teachers who contribute to the research work by performing a coaching role. The resulting design of the Information System transfers to the students the task of collecting the new material to be fed to the database, thus allowing the construction of their own learning. The benefits of this modality, among others, are: The student learns more, better and faster, while enjoying being actively involved in the constructive process; education is more effective when accomplished through critical thinking and understanding, rather than relying on memorization; constructivist learning promotes social and communication skills by creating an environment that emphasizes collaboration and exchange of ideas between students and teachers. The final chapter includes a plan for implementing the Information System in the CIPA, which consists of recommendations and steps-to-follow in order to integrate faculty and students of the ACA in the use of CIPA in the teaching-learning processes. However, for proper implementation in the educational processes in the Academy, the support and commitment of top rank is required for the dissemination and adoption of the techniques described in this thesis as well as rewards and recognition to those who show enthusiasm and achievements in the adherence to this tool.
