| es_CL |
| dc.description.abstract | During the last decades, industry has increased the power levels used in its productive processes, which has led to an ever-increasing demand for high-power, high-efficiency converters operating at the megawatt power level. Due to this, multilevel converters have become a very interesting alternative for industry and academia, since they are capable of operating with voltages in the kV range using low-voltage semiconductors. In this work, a new multilevel inverter is presented along with two ad hoc modulation schemes. The new topology has been denominated the Hybrid Multicell Converter. The inverter is based on the two most popular multilevel topologies, namely, the flying capacitor converter (FC) and the cascaded multicell converter (CM), in order to devise a new cell structure under the concept of a variable dc-link. The work required the design and construction of a 13-level prototype and the implementation of the two proposed modulation algorithms. The use of an LS-PWM modulator in the FC structures is probably one of the most interesting aspects investigated, as it delivered high-quality voltage patterns with superior spectral qualities. The experimental results obtained show the feasibility of the topology for medium-voltage applications, the converter’s ability to deliver high-quality voltage waveforms, and, at the same time, achieve a good input power factor. | es_CL |
