Abstract
The importance of this work is that it seeks to contribute to the proper management of water resources in the concentrator Colon, El Teniente, CODELCO - Chile. In light of a year of extreme water shortage, stringent conditions are imposed on the use of water. Currently, the availability of water is scarce and increasing values, therefore, all efforts aimed at efficient use will help keep the lines of a competitive and sustainable production. In this sense, the objective of this work is to investigate possible alternatives to improve water recovery from tailings thickeners. To address this room for improvement, a methodology based on the following elements was raised:¿ Conduct a screening of a mixture of flocculants and/or rheology modifiers that may decrease the yield stress of the pulp tailings discharge a thickener.¿ Determine the possibility of increasing the% solids in the pulp discharge a thickener, given a change in the mixture of flocculant and / or rheology modifier.¿ Finally, to address the problem of transportation that would imply an increase in the discharge solid, applying a reactive dispersant that would decrease the viscosity of the pulp in the trough was evaluated. This methodology evidence that the mixture of flocculant 33% 67% SNF 1030 - SNF603 could decrease pulp yield stress discharge a thickener, compared with standard mixture as% solids (Cp) was collected until Cp limit 66%.In addition, it was determined that it is possible to increase the% solids in the present condition, from Cp 54.7% to 58.6%. This would help reduce the make-up from a value of 0.73 [m3/t] to 0.60 [m3/t], ie, stop using 0.13 [m3] of fresh water to process 1 ton mineral. Finally, a reactive dispersant, RH 9010, capable of reducing the yield stress comparatively for a sample of tailings without the application of dispersant, this would improve the transport of tailings pulp was found. In addition, it helps tolerate a discharge sludge to a greater Cp, since this would present a pulp rheological characteristics of lower Cp. This will help reduce the make-up.With these areas of improvement could ensure proper water supply for complex scenarios.
