Abstract
Among the critical points of a manufacturing company’s strategy, are the correct projection, planning and management of its raw materials. If the company has great infrastructure, top level working teams, capacity and protocols, but the first link of the chain does notwork correctly, it would not be possible to bring the product to the costumer, as the raw material is precisely what is processed and transformed into a product, in order to satisfy the customer needs. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate any aspect that devalues the product throughout the production chain. Within the company, the inventory management, both of raw materials and of final products, is understood as a function in charge of the reception, storage and movement of these materials within the organization, making this one of the critical areas in a manufacturer company as it is BO Packaging. Ultimately, the correct warehouse management of productive materials aims at guaranteeing the continuous and on time supply of the necessary raw materials for the production, which along with a coordinated productive system ensures a continuous and synchronized delivery of service. In the following research, this area will be studied in a company that works under a “Job-Shop” production system with inputs in the production orders on customer’s request. This company belongs to the packaging industry and this research is strongly aimed at finding to find different measurements that improve the actual procedures in order to have better outcomes. This is based on is based in the new models of supply chains, information systems and finally the physical logistic that could be improved in the warehouses. Within these axes is that you can see four important edges for BO Packaging, among which are: Forecast Commercial and raw materials planning. Supply of raw materials. Warehouse: order and transfer of raw materials. Allocation and consumption of raw materials. These four edges will determine the raw materials management. As the first item determines which products will be purchased and kept on stock; the second determines how raw materials will be obtained for production; the third, how raw materials are distributed and organized in warehouses and finally the last item determines which of these raw materials are used in each production requirement and supervises that the uptake is being carried out correctly physically and logically in order to keep a correct information in the system and to prevent it from having logically and physically raw material contradictions. This program intends to establish improvements in the procedures allowing the raw materials management to be high standard in the company’s operation and ultimately to improve both operatively and competitively the BO Packaging S.A. position.
