Abstract
This thesis assesses the technical, regulatory, and curricular relevance of introducing specialized training in remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS/drones) maintenance at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, as well as the preliminary conditions for its implementation. An exploratory, descriptive, and proposal-oriented study was conducted through a review of Chilean and international regulations, technical characterization of RPAS, exploratory information gathering from sector stakeholders, and a comparative analysis of existing aeronautical education. The findings enabled the identification and prioritization of technical, regulatory, documentation, and training gaps, particularly in fault diagnosis, manufacturer procedures, and maintenance traceability. After comparing academic alternatives, an eight-module continuing education course was designed with a reference duration of 40 hours: 19 theoretical and 21 practical. A parameterized techno-economic model developed in Microsoft Excel, with Solver as a complementary selection tool, compared 24-, 40-, 60-, and 80-hour scenarios subject to curricular and operational constraints. The 40-hour alternative achieved the best relative economic performance among the academically feasible scenarios. However, with 16 participants, an evaluation price of CLP 550,000 per participant, and three annual course offerings, its three-year Net Present Value was negative. More favorable financial conditions were identified at enrollment levels close to 20 participants. The study concludes that(...).
