Abstract
The dependence on fossil fuels, has led many countries perceive the need to seek other sources of energy, especially the so-called renewable, because energy security represents a high cost to society, but the lack of energy has a cost even greater for people. This reinforces the belief that it is necessary to use the most of our renewable natural resources, in order not to depend on imported, expensive and polluting fuels are permanently affected by geopolitical events. One of the non-conventional renewable energy that can replace fossil type energies, corresponding to the biomass, which is additionally a source of carbon neutral biofuel and clean. In Chile, the traditional way of generating energy with forest biomass has been the use of wood plantations wastes remaining and available after harvest of the plantation which main use is to obtain wood for the sawmill industry and cellulose. On this occasion, the current thesis, has proposed to determine the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of installing a power plant using forest biomass, raw material, obtained from wood energy plantations and if this technology has room for mass scale and to become a profitable option for the production of renewable energy.
