Abstract
Microlearning has the potential to be an effective and adaptable solution for online learning environments, especially in contexts where student engagement is a critical challenge. To test its impact on undergraduate student learning, this method was implemented through an educational chatbot in an advanced course of the Civil Engineering degree in Computer Science. A quasi-experiment compared the performance of two groups in motivation and knowledge of the subject studied: one that interacted with a chatbot based on microlearning, and another that used videos as the main method. The results indicated that the microlearning group obtained superior academic performance and higher levels of intrinsic motivation and self-determination. This suggests that microlearning not only improves learning, but also fosters engagement and positive perception of the content, reducing amotivation.
