Abstract
The main objective of the work is to analyze the operational data from the first yearof the El Arrayán wind farm, in order to give an overview of alarms events (an alarmis generated during operation when it is necessary to warn or inform about an issuethat occurred at the wind turbine in one of the sensors that it has), and deepen intothe more important. Thus, it is aimed to diagnose as well as proposing improvementsthat help the company enhance the wind farm performance. It is had the alarm data as well as the operational data (SCADA) as 10-minutes averagesand their corresponding standard deviations for each wind turbine (wind speed, wind direction, yaw, pitch angle, rotor speed and electric power). It was made a filteringprocess before using the operational data in order to delete wrong measurements orstrange events. After that, it were organized and classified to show simple and clearlywhat happened in the 50 wind turbines, and thereby link the operational data withthe turbines alarms. It was found that many of the alarms were generated in the first working monthsof the wind farm, which is a normal phase for wind turbines and other machines thatit is called infant mortality, how ever after 5 months their behavior was stabilized. Inthe other hand it was concluded that the occurrence of many alarm groups is link withclimate conditions as occur in the Environment group, different to the groups relatedwith electric issues as the case of the Grid group. Finally it was studied deeply the alarm called Remote Stop Wake due to somewind turbines that stopped a lot more than their similars. The most likely reason weremisalignments observed specially at the turbines S8, S42 and S45, the ones that wereverified through the plotted time series. A economical benefit estimation was realizedconsidering a re-alignment of the wind turbine S42, in order to encourage a completereview of the 50 turbines alignment, because that would cause surely an anual energyproduction increment, and thus a considerable improvement in the revenues at the endof the wind farm life time.
