dc.description.abstract The report addresses the water crisis in the Coquimbo region of Chile, focusing on La Serena and Coquimbo, where water scarcity has severely affected agriculture, the economy, and quality of life. The main objective was to develop a model to predict the daily operational demand for drinking water in order to optimize its management. Flow data from the Aguas del Valle SCADA system (SMARTSCADA) and meteorological variables from Open-Meteo were used, covering the period from January 2022 to December 2024. The methodology integrated Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce the dimensionality of drinking water consumption data, and the ARIMAX model to predict consumption, considering factors such as temperature, precipitation, and cloud cover. The results show an accurate model, with a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 38.9 l/s and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 2.97%, highlighting temperature as the most influential variable. Implemented in Excel and used daily by Aguas del Valle, the model allows for anticipating demand with a seven-day horizon, optimizing the use of surface and groundwater sources, and improving water efficiency in a context of scarcity.
