Abstract
In recent years, the stock markets worldwide, has opened a new mode of operation associated with its own technological evolution: the algotrading. The algotrading is a technique that allows brokers to implement their own trading algorithms, able to decide, based on parameters entered, when and how much to buy (or sell). This latest technique represents a high impact on the traditional way of negotiating, as it is based on speculation methods involving high transaction volumes, with a high potential to influence the market indicators. This, coupled with known techniques of price manipulation and securities fraud, opens a new area of research to determine the real risk of this new technology. Additionally, the Stock Exchanges have to incorporate new forms of control to prevent undermining the transactional capabilities of the market and the other actors involved in the negotiations. Chile is no stranger to this reality, and the early implementation of mechanisms Algotrading in the domestic market makes us pay special attention to such negotiations.
