Abstract
In this study, the implementation of green hydrogen in the maritime transport on general charges is evaluated, considering the feasibility in technical, economic and environmental. In the first of these, we want to know and visualize the existence of the necessary technology to implement the hydrogen as fuel in this specific area, in addition to other important factors too, such as the impact on the load capacity generated by the measures, the estimated hydrogen consumption, among others. On the other hand, it is sought to know the profitability of the proposed measures presented, considering the indicator known as Net Annual Value (NPV) to calculate the impact of the different variables involved and the performance of sensitivity analysis to know the behavior of the variables in various cases. Finally, the environmental impact corresponds to one of the most important factors when evaluating a project regarding hydrogen, due to the current context associated with climate change, for which an estimate of CO2 and NOx emissions is made. Then we proceed to make a comparison with the base case presented in this study. In terms of profitability at a general level, the proposed measures are recommendable as long as the different conditions proposed in this report are met, corresponding in technical terms to the reduction of cargo capacity due to the large hydrogen tanks and in economic terms to the levels of investment or maximum hydrogen consumption in the case of one of the proposed options. Finally, the environmental impact generated by the different proposals is considered, delivering positive and important results to be considered in the context of general cargo shipping, causing a 100% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions in two of the three proposed options, in addition to mitigating emissions equivalent to the percentage of substitution of diesel oil by hydrogen in the last case.
