Abstract
In the Maule region represents an important agribusiness productive sector, for its participation in the Regional GDP, employment seasonal labor and participation in the national stage of mining exports. Nevertheless, there is insufficient application of the criteria and procedures for energy efficiency in the agricultural industry of the Maule Region, which reduces the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector in a context of increased competition, increased non-tariff barriers in the market export and an upward trend in the price of fossil fuels. The work includes a characterization of the Maule Region and regional agribusiness including energy consumption data and export volume. There are many facilities that can be classified as agribusiness, which perform different industrial processes such as production of wine, olive oil production, production of frozen, etc.. Such facilities clearly differ in unit activities they perform, so that they have different points of energy consumption and seasonality, with this comes the need to narrow the scope of the thesis to a type of facility with a production process that is comparable between them, so as to facilitate the description of their energy consumption and the potential of energy efficiency measures, which is why the work is bounded to the premises known as packing. It develops an investigation based on bibliographic information for identification of the available technical options and referred to such facilities and provide comments regarding its applicability from technically and financially. Finally we conclude with respect to the analysis developed and the implications of energy efficiency actions.
