Abstract
The expansion of digital media has fueled the proliferation of ”Fake News,” a global phenomenon ingrained in everyday life and exacerbated in Chile during crises such as the 2019 social outbreak and the Covid-19 pandemic. In this context, this study focuses on comprehending misinformation in Chile and analyzing how the country’s fact-checking media address it. To achieve this, a dataset was constructed, compiling the work of three Chilean fact-checking media outlets. It was enriched with contextual information, and verification labels were standardized across the media. Additionally, the propagation trees of verified content shared on Twitter were constructed and analyzed, providing insights into responses and retweets associated with misinformation. Finally, metrics were obtained that revealed crucial data, including verification response times, propagation dynamics, presence of bots, emotional aspects in discussions, and disparities in virality between verification and verified content.
